More than 90 recipes, 150 color food and farm photographs, and 19 stories reflecting Minnesota’s revered farm-to-table values.
The Farmer and the Chef: Farm Fresh Minnesota Recipes and Stories is a collection of farmer-forward writings and chef-driven recipes, giving readers an inside look at the life of food and farming in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
The Farmer and the Chef comes at the most relevant time possible, after the COVID-19 crisis has illuminated the stark frailties within our food system, the crucial role farmers play in feeding the world, and the vitality restaurants bring to our communities and lives. The Farmer and the Chef is more than a cookbook – it’s an invitation to step inside the world of farming and glimpse what it takes to bring food from the farm to the table.
Recipes from Minnesota’s revered chefs and restaurateurs, accompanied by stunning photography and farmers’ real-life stories, showcase the daily rhythms, struggles and triumphs of Minnesota farmers. Organized around chapter themes such as Daybreak, Tractor Meals, Summer Harvest, and Sunday Picnics, recipe highlights include loaded local oatmeal with black currant blueberry jam, cottage bread, summer goddess walleye, farmers market panzanella, swede hollow meatballs, and cherry-glazed madeleines.
